MAJOR KEY SIGNATURES
Play Key Trainer for 5 minutes.
On the right side, click “Settings” and choose “Major”. Click settings again to return to the previous page.
Record your score on Web Rewards page. If you did not score 90% or above (or you wish to have more practice), play this again, or proceed to the other exercises.
Play Major Key Signatures
Make sure “Major” is checked, and “Both” is checked. Do not limit it to 4 accidentals unless you are just starting to understand key signatures.
Do this activity for 5 minutes, then record your score (percentage) on the Web Rewards page.
MINOR KEY SIGNATURES
Go to Key Trainer.
On the right side, click “Settings” and choose “minor”. Click settings again to return to the previous page.
Play this for 5 minutes and record your score on the Web Rewards Page.
If you did not get 90% or better, please play it again.
*Remember, you must determine what the Major key signature is first. Then, you count down 3 half steps to find the minor key signature.
Go to Minor Key Signatures
Make sure “minor” is checked, and “both” is checked.
Play this for 5 minutes and record your score.
Remember to figure out what the relative major is first (sharps: take last sharp and go up 1/2 step. Flats, take 2nd to last flat and name it), then count down 3 half steps to find the minor.
BUILDING KEY SIGNATURES
Go to Teoria.
Choose Major and Both.
Uncheck the “limit key signature to 4 accidentals” unless you want to try an easy version first.
Do this exercise for 5 minutes. Write your score on your Web Rewards page and any notes about which signatures you struggle with.
ENHARMONICS
On a separate sheet of paper, give 2 possible enharmonic spellings for these notes:
C
E
Gb
B
F
Here is what you need to know to complete this exercise:
1. You can use double sharps and double flats if necessary.
2. Enharmonic means that it is the same note, but it has a different name. So two enharmonics for D would be Cx (Double sharp is an x) and Ebb (double flat).
INTERVALS by SIGHT
Go to Interval Trainer.
On the right, click “Aug and Dim” to OFF. Click “dbl accidentals” to OFF.
Choose New Interval, then play for 5 minutes and record your percentage on the Web Rewards page. If you did not get 90% or better, do it for another 5 minutes. If you need help, refer to your “Interval Shortcut” sheet in your piano notebook.
INTERVALS BY EAR
Go to Teoria Interval Ear Trainer.
Under Intervals, make sure every interval is checked except the “tritone.”
Click OK.
Choose what clef you want to use.
Click OK.
Do this game for 5 minutes, then record your score (percentage) in your Web Rewards page. If you do not score better than 90%, play it again, choosing a smaller number of intervals. For example, if you know you are having trouble with M2, m2, M3, m3, and M6, then just check those the 2nd time you play.
OR
Go to Big Ears.
Make sure only the following intervals are checked:
m2, M2, m3, M3, P4, P5, m6, M6, m6, M7, P8.
Do this activity for 5 minutes. (Don’t forget, it is wise to listen to the interval 3 times, like MP does before you answer.) As you play, write down what intervals you miss. If you do not do well, go back and drill just the ones with which you had trouble.
INTERVALS–BUILD
Go to Emusic Theory Building Intervals.
Go to Settings (upper left hand corner).
Choose:
Drill Type: Build intervals on staff
Starting Note: No accidentals on starting note
Intervals Types: Check Major/Perfect AND minor
Interval direction: Only Ascending intervals
Intervals: seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, sevenths, eighths
Click OK
Play this for 5 minutes, making notes on what intervals you miss. Record your score on your Web Rewards page. If you do not get 90% or more, plan on playing it again.

SCALES BY EAR
Go to Teoria Scale Identification.
Check the Major and minor scales box. (This will drill Major, natural minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor…all of which you have to know.)
Do this for 5 minutes and record your score (percentage) on the Web Rewards page. If you do not score 90% or more, play it again.
MELODIC DICTATION
This year for MP, you will need to fill in the missing notes to a melody. The first exercise here includes Christmas melodies that you know. This should help as you begin to try to hear the correct pitches. Remember to compare the pitch that you think it is to the pitch before and after the note.
